Seventeen-year-old Maja marries Janni, a fisherman, against her will. Her life in Stormscarret is full of challenges and failures. As a fisherman’s wife, she has to take care of herself and take care of the family when her husband is at sea.. The serial about this story came out in 1975 and was a masterpiece.
A modern House for our time, it was said. Will they possibly change the whole story? One part of the movie could have been shortened a bit in the middle, but otherwise the movie was perfect. The house here was completely different than it was 49 years ago.
She was stronger and happier and had a better sense of humor. I don’t know what kind of woman the real Maya was (yes, there was both the real Maya and the real Janne!), but I think she looked a lot like this Maya. The actors who played Maya and Jenna were perfect. Some key scenes in this version were very different from the 1975 version, but they were no less moving.
One of the more moving episodes from the 1975 version was actually longer and more detailed here, and left a bigger impression on me. Director Tiina Laimi added details that literally surprised, but they added to the beauty of the film. In one scene I really wondered what the hell the director was thinking. This particular scene was one of the most powerful in the entire film, so Laimie knew what she was doing!
In my opinion, all the scenes that were omitted from this new version did not hurt the story. The events that moved me the most in 1977, when I saw the series, were all in this version – different, but still very powerful.
