In filmmaking and screenwriting, it’s a good idea to limit the narrative of characters, letting the actions, conversations, and scenes speak for themselves. However, if there is one exception, and it is called Dexter! From the very beginning I was captivated by the character of Dexter, a dark and introverted individual.
The strength of the character development was evident, enhanced by impeccable casting and an engaging, crime-filled plot. However, after that, the quality of the show began to decline. The introduction of new characters and excessive drama took a toll on the once classic series. Despite my love for the character, I felt a gradual decline in his charm, including that of Debra.
The writing and direction were solid, however, Dexter himself took center stage as his portrayal of dark humor remained a highlight. His narration throughout the episodes was a unique perspective where we got to know how he perceived things, people, and crimes; it was very captivating. I recommend this series, but encourage viewers to approach it at their own pace and choose the number of seasons they want to enjoy.
